This recipe is sugar-free, vegan, low-carb, gluten-free, and keto friendly, meaning these little squares are a perfect healthy and sweet late night snack suitable for any eating style! Oh, and they’re only made from 4 ingredients!
Yummy, soft, decadent, chocolate fudge, that’s wait for it…
SUGAR FREE! Yes… it is possible to replicate in a healthy way, that soft, wonderfully chocolatey childhood classic, CHOCOLATE FUDGE.
Chocolate fudge is a little holiday season tradition in my house!
You see, my absolute favorite treat in the world is ice cream, but when the slightly chillier weather comes (I live in the sunshine state) and sparkling Christmas decorations come out, all you want to do is be cozy and cold treats don’t have the same effect.
That’s when I start to really want fudge, and so do the rest of my family - in all sorts of flavors from white chocolate to gingerbread.
I don’t know what it is about the holidays that make us want chocolate fudge - maybe it’s the fact that it’s a popular DIY gift for the season - but it’s turned into a full on tradition in my fam. We like to cozy up on the couch and watch old and new Holiday classics all season long, and of course, bring out our fave sweet snack - my homemade fudge.
Sadly, though, recently it’s been seeming like this sweet snack tradition had to mostly come to an end. As I (and less so, but still my family too) have been working on reducing and balancing our sugar intake, eating a ton of sugary fudge hasn’t really been seeming like the best idea.
**Cue Sugar-Free Chocolate Fudge**
Determined not to let this tradition go, I made it my mission to make a SUGAR FREE chocolate fudge recipe, that would be just a delicious as if it had sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and of course those delectable chocolate chips.
It’s been a bit of a practice to get the right texture - that soft yumminess. I tried a simple peanut butter recipe, cocoa only recipes, and more but it just wasn’t quite right. I found some ideas with cream, but as I’m working on eating less dairy I really wanted these little guys to be vegan friendly.
But… oh… my it was well worth the time, as I was able to create a soft, melt in the mouth, fudgy, decadent, chocolaty, SUGAR FREE CHOCOLATE FUDGE, and its just really, really good.
The reason I chose cashew butter in place of peanut butter is that it’s just a lot smoother, and the fact that I have a love/hate relationship with the stuff. Ideally I’d love to work out a recipe that is nut/allergy free, but this fudge simply doesn’t have the same texture with other ingredients without being non-vegan friendly, which as I said is super important to me.
So, I was able to finally balance that sweet and chocolaty flavor we all know and love, without any sugar.
My whole family loves them… and...
I actually now eat fudge all year round with this HEALTHY fudge recipe. Healthy, chocolaty and delicious - I can’t get enough. 😉
Recently, my friend Jessica asked me via social media whether I had a tasty sugar-free fudge recipe and I was like totally girl, why did I never think to share it?
Jess told me all about how she is a total chocolate fudge addict starting from when she used to eat it homemade at her grandma's house, and as she got older she started making her grandma’s homemade recipe herself all the time.
However, she’s working on eating less sugar so just like me eating little fudgy bears isn’t a great idea. I pm’d her this recipe and two days later she messaged me saying how much she loved it, so I was like ‘it’s seriously time to post it’.
So, this sugar-free chocolate fudge recipe is what I’m sharing for day 18 of my Sugar-Free September Recipe Challenge, where I share sugar-free recipe versions of your favorite foods, while also eating no-sugar myself the whole month, cool eh!
Stupendously chocolaty, sweet, rich and almost creamy in your mouth, gosh you’ll love this recipe for my Sugar Free Scrumptious Chocolate Fudge!
Literally you won’t believe you’re eating healthy!
With all of that said, here’s your recipe!
Sugar-Free Creamy Chocolate Fudge (Vegan, Keto)
Isabelle McKenzie | Sept 18th 2019
- prep time: 2 mins
- cook time: 2 mins
- total time: 4 mins + chilling
Servings: 12
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup coconut oil (or butter for non-vegans)
1/2 cup creamy unsweetened cashew butter
3/4 cup Lily’s stevia sweetened chocolate chips (see note)
1/4 tsp salt
HOW TO MAKE IT:
Place all ingredients in a microwave safe bowl, and heat for 15-30 sec intervals (stirring) until liquid and completely melted. Careful not to burn the chocolate.
Pour into a parchment lined 8x8 dish (with a lid) and place into the freezer until hard, at least 20 mins. Remove from freezer and slice. Store fudge in the fridge to prevent the coconut oil from melting.
Note: You can also use unsweetened chocolate, simply add a few drops of chocolate stevia to the mix, to taste.
