In fact, there is nothing I love more than cooking or baking (or maybe both 😉),

and then sitting down with my loved ones and enjoying and sharing the results of my labor! Our weekend breakfasts, and evening dinners are legendary. We just really love to ‘break bread’ together 😄

I come from a family of six other siblings, and, including my parents we're a family of 9 - that’s a lot of birthday celebrations! Don't forget about all the other holidays though - Easter, Valentines, Halloween, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas... you name it, we celebrate it!

But, that also means we love to plan big family feasts.

Our birthday celebrations alone can go on for a week! It’s not that all the options we chose for these celebrations are fundamentally bad for you, (I’m sure that some people would even go as far as saying our savory dishes were healthy) but it’s just fact that if you eat too much, you’re going to put on some pounds!  

 
 

Guess what? I did!

And I’ll tell you… it took me completely by surprise.

You see I had the good fortune of growing up in a house-hold were exercise was a part of our life - just like brushing our teeth. We literally would stop (and still do!) what we were doing around the same time of day, 5 or 6 times a week, and would gather together and exercise, and I’m talking serious exercise!

The problem was that it had given me not only a false sense of security, but when I injured my ankle when I was 17 and I had to stop exercising completely for many months to recover, it triggered a pattern of destructive eating patterns and self-sabotage.

Honestly, I was shocked by myself.

I was shocked by my own negative self-talk.

Before I knew it I had gained over 30 pounds.

I was devastated, and this just put me into a terrible frame of mind. I felt insecure, lost, and sometimes hopeless.

I hit the internet looking for answers. I tried diets, so many diets… but I just couldn’t get the weight-off. My willpower kept defeating me.

Because I couldn’t see the results I was looking for quickly enough despite my self-imposed food deprivation, I would fall of the wagon.

Things got worse. I developed other ailments. Acne. Hormone imbalances. Complete body inflammation.  

I was tired of being at war with my body.

 
 
 

BUT THEN, THINGS CHANGED.

I focused on three things:

  1. Creating an environment for everyday success, made simple and sustainable.
  2. Creating a safety-net for my mind. Sounds a bit crazy right?! Actually, it’s a super effective tactic. I developed a plan to deal with every pitfall and temptation that might trip me up along the way, so that I would be able to know what to do, and how to handle it without a second thought.
  3. I developed a step-by-step system -- one that actually worked -- in order to lose the weight and create a ridiculously successful body maintenance program.

 10 months later I had lost 30lbs, and I had completely broken-free from my negative mindset and poor habits.

Now, nearly two years later, I’ve not only comfortably kept at my target weight, but I’ve done it whilst actually living the life that I want to lead, that makes me happy.

 

I have been able to enjoy treats, baking and big family celebrations without putting the pounds back on, or feeling guilty and bad about myself.

I’ve even gone through two what I call ‘McKenzie holiday seasons’, and only put on, at most 5 lbs., and then lost them within in a week - felt amazing! 😉

(a quick definition of ‘McKenzie holiday seasons’: this is the time from the end of October, through to mid-February, where we go through 5 family birthday’s, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year and finally Valentines. It’s the most dangerous time for our waistlines!)

My family and friends were so impressed that the began following my system to with the same breathtaking results.

It turned out that it was the perfect way to guarantee that, even if you were in good shape and slim, you would stay that way even after over-indulging!
