A classic thousand island dressing with a healthy twist - it’s sugar-free, low carb, gluten-free, keto, and even vegan friendly! This easy to make dressing is made with common household ingredients and works well on everything from veggies to fries!

I have to say, something that always concerns me is the amount of dips and dressing in the average person’s diet.

Why, you may ask?

Well, because they’re really dang delicious, and because of that you can easily end up eating too much of them or using too much of them of your food really quickly.

The problem with that is that many a time folks are actually pouring corn syrup or cane juice onto whatever they’re eating.

Yep… many salad dressings and dips are loaded with sugar and sweeteners!

What makes this even more unfortunate is the fact that many people trying to eat healthier use store bought dressings on their healthy greens, which only ruins all the benefits of the salad because of the high sugar content and artificial ingredients in that very dressing.

These salad dressings are full of sugar for that very reason; to make people who don’t like veggies eat them right up.

Low-fat dressings are the worst culprits. Food manufacturers fill your bottle of low-fat dressing with sugar to provide flavor to make up for the loss of fat.

One of these many store-bought (and even homemade) dressings that can be packed with sugar is thousand isle dressing.

Take, for example, Kraft Thousand Island Salad Dressing. It has sugar listed as it’s fourth ingredient, and just 2 tbsp of the stuff contains a whopping 4 grams of sugar.

And if you try to go healthier and opt for Kraft Light Thousand Island Salad Dressing? Well, you’re not getting much better, in fact it’s much worse. It boasts a massive 7 grams of sugar in only 2 tbsp, while also containing corn syrup and strange natural flavors.

I’m not just attacking Kraft here, because many brands are just like this.

All of this doesn’t mean you need to avoid dressing though.

I'm snacking on celery and carrots with thousand island dressing right now, as I type these very words.

Sugar-free homemade thousand island dressing.

There is a thousand island dressing, that is sugar free, made from pure simple ingredients, is additive free aka weird ingredient free, super easy to whip up and my gosh delicious… way better than any old random store bought bottle.

Once you’ve tried it, you’re going to be kicking yourself for the all the times you have bought it bottled.

I’m talking about my homemade, sugar-free, keto/low-carb, and vegan friendly 1000 island dressing. Pretty awesome right?

If you haven’t already heard, it’s sugar-free September, which means I’m eating sugar-free all month and releasing one no-sugar-added recipe everyday this month… and today’s recipe?

You guessed it, it’s that very same sugar-free thousand island dressing!

This sugar-free thousand island dressing recipe is healthy while also being zesty, slightly sweet, creamy and just overall delicious! The secret to it’s sugar-free charm is the fact that I use my homemade sugar-free ketchup in place of the overly sweet store-bought stuff, which enhances the flavour

I also, usually make mine with non-dairy ingredients, which means that it’s vegan friendly, and the fact that it contains no milk or sugar means that it’s low in carbs and keto friendly! Can I get a heck yes?!

I use it as a dressing and also as a dip for veggies, crackers, and quinoa chips!

It wasn’t very difficult to develop my thousand isle dressing without sugar, because the combo of ingredients like shredded pickle and homemade ketchup have their own natural flavors which speak for themselves.

Feel free to snack away with this healthy sugar-free thousand island dressing!

Before you go, I just have to share with you where that funny name ‘thousand island’ comes from.

Thousand island dressing was named in honor of the beautiful area where it was first prepared, Thousand Islands, New York. The story goes, in the early 20th century, a fishing guide's wife, Sophie Lalonde, made the condiment for her husband's shore dinner. Actress, May Irwin liked it so much that she requested the recipe!
